Heat
can ease pain and aches, and hot water bottles are one of the best and
cost-effective ways to use heat on your body. This is one of the traditional
methods used by many people for getting rid of the pain. You will be able to
find a hot water bottle at any grocery store near your house or at the online
stores as well. Buying a hot water bottle is not just enough; you need to how
exactly to use it to rid of pain and get relief.
So,
if you are using them for the first time, then here is how to use hot water
bottle properly for best results.
There
are basically two steps in the proper use of a hot water bottle:
1. Filling
the hot water bottle
2. Using
the hot water bottle
Filling
the hot water bottle:
You
should first start heating water in a kettle. The standard hot water bottles
are one to two-litre capacity, and so you should use only that much of water.
Always make sure that the temperature of the water does not exceed 100 degrees
F. If it is more than that, then it can be hard for you to tolerate the heat.
Once the water is heated up, open the cap of the water bottle and with the help
of the kettle, start filling the water. You need to be very careful so that the
water does not spill on your hands. Do not fill it completely to its capacity.
You should always fill on 2/3 rd of the capacity and close the cap of the hot
water bottle. You will have to release the air in the bottle if there is any and
the close the cap.
If
your hot water bottle is microwaveable, then there is no problem at all. You
can just simply fill the bottle and place it in the microwave. You can follow
the instructions given by the manufacturer on the pack. This does not take a
lot of time.
Using
the hot water bottle:
Now,
the actual process starts. Before you place the bottle on your body, you should
first make sure that you are placing a cloth on the body surface where you are
going to use it. You should never place the bottle on the body directly. If
possible, you can get a perfect cover for your hot water bottle. They are
easily available at the stores near you or at the same store where you bought
the water bottle.
You
should now place the bottle on the body and make sure that you are not leaving
it for more than 30 minutes on the body. It may take a few minutes for you to
feel the heat, but never use it more than 30 minutes as that can damage the
skin. It can be used for headaches, menstrual cramps, body pains and other purposes
as well. Make sure to empty the hot water bottle after every use to increase
the life of the water bottle. Water retention inside the bottle for days can
cause mold inside the bottle, which is not visible to you.
