If there is any place in the home where lots of
electrical appliances come together, it has to be the kitchen. And on this
entire planet, there is no kitchen that doesn't have a refrigerator. My own
kitchen has a very lovely American style and buy best
fridge and freezer, with which I am very happy.
Most people take their fridges for granted and
don't give much thought to what kinds of fridges there exist. Different kinds
of styles have different kinds of benefits. And different kinds of people have
different kinds of needs. To help you out, I have created an overview of the
various types of fridges.
1. Traditional Top Freezer Refrigerator. For a
long time, people have considered this as the only true option when it comes to
fridge freezer designs. This type is the one you'll find the most in kitchens
around the world these days.
The best thing about this fridge design is the
cost. Of all the designs available, this one is by far the most affordable.
This fridge design lends itself to storing snacks at the bottom. Families with
kids usually have a fridge like this so the kids can easily help themselves.
2. Bottom Freezer Refrigerators. These types of
fridge freezers are a slightly different design than the traditional fridge
freezer. The only difference is that the freezer is now at the bottom instead
of the top. The reasoning behind this is that people require cold food more
often than frozen food. It's so much better to not have to bend at the knees
every single time you want to grab something cold from the fridge.
The freezer at the bottom slides out very
easily. You won't have to bend much, but when you do you'll have an easy time
taking from the freezer whatever it was that you were looking for. Another
benefit from this design is that it's usually more energy efficient.
3. Side By Side Refrigerators. The side by side
fridge freezer gives you the best from both worlds. You can store both frozen
and refrigerated foods in here. All the ones that you want to access frequently
can be on eye level. Very handy indeed. And before buying any tech related
products you need to read the online buyers guide and reviews on some reputed
websites.
Fridges and Freezers - Getting the Temperature
Right
Whether you are buying a separate fridge and
freezer or a combined fridge/freezer, you need to make sure that the
temperatures inside remain constant and at the right level. Some models (but
very few) have built-in thermometers. For those that do not, get a fridge
thermometer (they are available in most hardware stores) to give yourself an
idea of the fridge temperature.
Do not forget: in summer, you will need to alter
the thermostat to keep the fridge cool as the temperature outside it rises.
Fridges: There should be two different
temperature levels. The top shelf should be approximately 5 degree centigrade
(41°F) or less. If it is the cool section at the bottom of the fridge will be
1°C (34°F).
Leave the thermometer in the middle of the top
shelf overnight. Check the temperature in the morning without letting in too
much warm air.
Use the top shelf for yoghurt, orange juice,
butter or food that does not need to be cold.
Use the bottom, cooler area for raw meat, fish,
poultry or vegetables. Take care not to let raw meat juices run onto leftover
foods.
Freezers: To be safe, freezer should be kept at
a temperature of - 18°C (-0.4°F). A genuine freezer is marked with the freezer
symbol.
Stand the thermometer on the edge of the top shelf or at the front of the top basket if
it is a chest freezer) on the side the door opens. Leave it for a couple of
hours before reading it. If it is higher than -18°C (-0.4°F) food deteriorates
quicker, so turn the temperature down. If it is lower than that, you are
wasting energy.
Try to keep the door closed as much as possible.
Warm air gets in very fast and raises the temperature.
Fridge/freezers: Most fridge/freezers have only
one temperature control for both parts, and rarely include a thermometer. This
makes it difficult to maintain the correct temperatures.
If necessary, have the freezer slightly warmer,
but get the correct temperature for the fridge - fresh food is more likely to
spoil.
Shared control fridge/freezer are often not too
good at freezing. They may well take longer to freeze food than a separate
freezer.
